Weesp and surroundings
The town of Weesp lies right on the river Vecht and can easily be reached by boat — if there is room, guests can even dock right in front of the hotel. Weesp is a place of beautiful bridges that connect the different parts of the historical town, and there are several great churches. The city sightseeing tour and the city museum are certainly worthwhile. And after soaking up some culture, you can relax on one of the town’s café terraces and take in the sights. The old city hall, the large church, the old fortifications and three impressive windmills. Take a bike to explore the surrounding lands of the Gooi and Vecht region. Take a trip to the medieval Muiderslot castle or follow the banks of the Vecht river. Visitors can also cycle past several of the forts that used to be part of the Hollandse Waterlinie (Hollandic Water Line). After all, Weesp was one of the five cities in that military structure that was used to defend Holland from invaders by flooding large parts of the country.
